Why it matters
You cannot protect yourself from a chemical you do not recognize. Labels and safety data sheets exist so you know before you touch.
Key points
- Every controlled product must have a supplier or workplace label.
- Know the pictograms: flame, skull, health hazard, corrosion, exploding bomb.
- Safety Data Sheets (SDS) must be accessible to every worker - know where they are.
- Never use an unlabeled container; never transfer chemicals into food or drink containers.
- Wear the PPE the SDS calls for, not just what is convenient.
