Hitting a gas line or buried electrical is deadly, and digging without locates is illegal.
Key points
- Call/click before you dig: One Call (Ontario One Call, BC 1 Call) before ANY ground disturbance.
- Locates expire - check the date and re-request if the job slips.
- Hand-expose (daylight) within the hand-dig zone of marked utilities.
- Marks are approximate: the tolerance zone extends on both sides.
- Stop work immediately on any unexpected contact or unmarked find.
